dj Todd DJ TODD - TORONTO
(Friday night)

Todd Clayton aka DJ Todd started off by being in the right place at the right time. When one of his friends needed a new DJ partner with an obscenely large collection of CDs, he jumped at the chance, and the rest is history.

From 1995 until the clubs close in the summer of 2001, Todd spun everything under the sun on Saturdays at the now infamous Sanctuary in Toronto. "I can still remember being chastised for playing 'that techno crap' while trying to introduce people to Covenant in 1997."

At the beginning of 1998, Todd started playing around with the idea of doing a radio show. Real Synthetic Audio started out as an experiment in streaming media for a work related project, and it just snowballed from there. Now with over 15,000 listeners a month, Real Synthetic Audio is easily the most listened to EBM/Synthpop net radio show.

Lured out of semi-retirement for Synthpop Goes The World, Todd brings an interesting mix of lesser known, recent Synthpop artists to the table.

dj Lazarus DJ LAZARUS - TORONTO
(Saturday night)

Lloyd Warren, a.k.a. DJ Lazarus, used to be beat up in grades 6 to 8 for listening to Kraftwerk, the Cure, Gary Numan, Eurythmics, and Weird Al Yankovic. It was obviously very uncool to listen to anything other than KISS, AC/DC, and Def Leppard, according to the so-called hip and trendy metal heads. Even with the beatings, Lazarus continued to listen to the music that inspired him. He even listened to the radio for hours a day with his finger on the record button to tape songs he enjoyed. As he grew older he took crappy jobs at Pizza Hut, Pantorama, and Hal's Videos, to help earn money to pay for his insatiable music appetite.

Thousands of records and CD's later, while taking film production at university, Lazarus started a college radio show called 'Dark Souls Rising'. It was a sort of goth, electronic, industrial, brit pop, new wave thing that graced the airwaves for four years. During that time he also started playing music in a club setting at 'Fetish Masquerade'; Toronto's longest running monthly fetish night. Shortly after, Lazarus started 'Sideshow Sundays' which is still running strong today.

Through the years Lazarus has taken many risks to try and bring many diverse and fun events to life. Most of them have been wildly successful while a few have failed, but Lazarus is proud of all the different events in which he has been involved. Some of the more successful nights have been DARKRAVE, Sideshow Sundays, Smiths Fest, Cure Fest, Depeche Mode Fest, Heroes (and villains) of the 80's, and Fetish Masquerade. Lazarus has also done guest DJ spots at many unique events from raves and industrial nights, to corporate parties and weddings (ever see a grandfather and grandmother get down and dirty to "...fuck you like an animal". Yikes!)

Lazarus has gleamed much knowledge on music and event promotion and now brings this experience to 'Synthpop Goes the World'. As the organizer and promoter, he his sure to go that extra mile to give you an experience you never thought was possible. As a DJ, he is sure to make you smile, reflect, dream, and dance your ass off.

voodoo ru VOODOO RU - NEW YORK
(Sunday night)

Rui Camarinha a.k.a. VoodooRu started DJing back in the days when bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, OMD, Simple Minds and others were called 'alternative.' Heavily influenced by the new wave sound and style and the original NYC electro-break-dance movement, VoodooRu's love for all electronic music can't be denied.

In 1986 VoodooRu helped launch the now legendary, 'The Pipeline Industrial Club' in Newark, New Jersey. The Pipeline was the first full-time 'Industrial' format club in the North New Jersey-NYC area from 1986-1989. Spinning records from Front 242, DAF, Cabaret Voltaire, Skinny Puppy along side The Cure, Pet Shop Boys and The Smiths and Depeche Mode was something new and exciting. It wasn't until 1989 that other local clubs followed and started their own 'industrial night.'

VoodooRu promoted many great bands at The Pipeline stage: Nine Inch Nails, Meat Beat Manifesto, Front Line Assembly, Pankow, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Manufacture, The Young Gods first ever US appearance, The Electric Hell Fire Club and many others!

VoodooRu's DJ gigs reads like a who's who of legandary nights such as The Bank, Communion at Limelight, The Batcave and many other nights inbetween.

VoodooRu always has a pulse on the underground electronic scene spinning New-Wave, Industrial, EBM, New Beat, Acid, Techno, and Synthpop. The 'Synthpop Goes The World' electronic music festival in Toronto, Canada will give VoodooRu an opportunity to showcase his many years of experience and talent as a DJ and visionary to an international audience. Avoiding the usual playlist material, expect some pleasant surprises of great electronic dance music!
