Bands (listed alphabetically)

and one AND ONE
is easily one of the most well known and lively German synthpop bands in the world. 'AND ONE' is a magical blend of synthpop and industrial music that will have you stomping around and begging for more. With an unending list of club hits like 'get you closer', 'wasted', 'metal hammer', 'panzermensch', 'deutschmaschine', 'technoman', and 'recover you', need I say more?

Well, I will say a little more, And One are hard at work on their new album titled 'Aggressor'. Yippee!

assemblage 23 Assemblage 23
has risen quickly as one of the premiere bands in the 'scene', with releases like 'Contempt', 'Failure', 'Addendum', and the various remixes and covers they have done. Tom Shear is the man behind Assemblage 23, a musician who has been making electronic music in varying capacities since the late 80's. His influences range from 'new wave' and 'punk' to the early sounds of industrial music. A23's music is aggressive, emotional, danceable, and well written. Assemblage 23 is currently working on their next album and are aiming for a fall 2002 release date.

beborn beton Beborn Beton
has managed to build a strong and impressive body of work since the early 90's. They are now leaders in the German synthpop scene. Beborn Beton will be touring with Apoptygma this summer and will finally be making it bigger in North America. They will be releasing a greatest hits CD, which is a testament to how good Beborn Beton really are.

Cleen / Cleaner / Clear Vision Cleen / Cleaner / Clear Vision
Daniel Myer, the brains and heart behind Cleen/Clear Vision, is not only a prolific electronic music genius, but one of the most respected and well known names in the alternative electronic scene. He is currently involved in Clear Vision, Haujobb, HMB, and many other musical projects as both a solo artist and a collaborator. Cleen/Clear Vision is his most EBM influenced work with many dance floor favourites including "Did you forget something?", "Freaks", "Sunburst", "Stronger", "Believe", "Pillow Talk", "Revenge", "The Voice", and almost every other track off all the albums. His presence is a perfect addition to SGtW.

cosmicity Cosmicity
is the brainchild of one Mark Nicholas, a prolific 'geek' boy. Cosmicity has released a slew of albums, singles, and remixes since the mid 90's that, in my opinion, represent the 'purity' of synthpop. The songs are catchy, slightly melancholy, and fitted with an observant sense of humour. Cosmicity's latest album 'Pure' has just been released and will be followed up by several maxi singles this year. If you have not heard of Cosmicity, then I would highly recommend getting 'Resynthesized', the double CD that was released in late 2000. This would be the best gateway CD to enter the world of Cosmicity.

covenant Covenant
is one of those bands that grip you from the first time you hear them and don't let go. With pounding rhythms and some of the best programming and sequencing out there, they are ready to take over the world. Their past albums 'Sequencer', Europa', and 'United States of Mind' are brilliant, but I think it is just a warm up to their next album coming out this year. Be prepared to be blown away.

die roboter Die Roboter
is hands down the best, and possibly only, Kraftwerk cover band in the world! If you have never seen Kraftwerk live then this is your chance to pretend you have. Die Roboter will have you cheering for those analog sounds as they project retro style computer graphics on stage. This will be a performance you will be telling all your friends about. :)

melotron Melotron
is a German band that actually sings in German! A novel idea I'd say. ;) Since 1991 Melotron has been releasing danceable synthpop that can be heard in alternative clubs everywhere. With club hits like, 'Der Blaue Planet', 'Dein Meister', and 'Kindertraum' the language barrier is broken down with smooth programming, catchy melodies, and pulsating beats.

mesh Mesh
has been a staple of the underground synthpop scene for several years and are one of the better known synthpop acts from the UK. They just released their latest album, "Who Watches Over Me". With a great new album, and strong live performance, MESH is certainly a band to keep your eye on.

new clear sky New Clear Sky
is a relative new comer but has recently made a splash with their new single 'Vast'. Their latest album, 'Newer, Clearer…' will be out soon on 'A Different Drum'. NCS is a rarity among synthpop bands that seems to be able to give their songs a sensual sound while maintaining a danceable rhythm. Last year they won an ASA for best remix single for 'Stuff of Magick'(big mix).

psyche Psyche
has been making music since the early 80's. Yet, Psyche is more popular now than ever before! Darrin Huss, the lead singer and main force behind Psyche, has been making music for 17 years and always puts on a passionate and unique performance. Their last album, 'The Hiding Place', is a strong effort which shows the wisdom and maturity Psyche has gained over the years. They also have a remix album due out this April called 'Endangered Species'.

red flag Red Flag
first caught my attention way back in 1989 when I picked up a copy of their wonderful debut album, 'Naïve Art'. Thirteen years later Red Flag are still producing great synth driven music. Their music has evolved from a more melancholy sound to a darker edged sound while always keeping their integrity. Their latest offering is 'Fear of a Red Planet' their strongest release in a few years, and they also have a new full length titled, 'Bitter End' planned for this year.

spoons Spoons
are one of the seminal Canadian synthpop bands hailing back to the 80's. They had great success with hits like 'Nova Heart', 'Old Emotions', 'Tell no Lies', 'Arias and Symphonies', 'Romantic Traffic' and many more. The Spoons are true artists and have an uncompromising approach to creating electronic music that ranges from the almost experimental to club floor favourites. Few bands have captured the essence of early synth music so perfectly as the Spoons and they are truly 'the last of a dying breed'. Every synth fan should run out and buy 'Collectible Spoons' which is a best of the Spoons CD. Here is some good news for fans; I am told the Spoons are working on new material.

t.o.y. T.O.Y.
has been making industrial synth driven music since the early 90's under the name 'Evils Toy'. As their music evolved to a less harsh synthpop sound they changed their name to reflect this progression. Now known as T.O.Y. (trademark of youth), they have just recently released their latest album 'Space Radio'. An infectious album that won't leave your CD player. Be prepared to be launched into orbit by an energetic live performance and an incredible set list including some 'Evils Toy' material.
